Having varicose veins is one of the common problems of the men and women. It does not only give discomfort it also lowers self-esteem.
There are some self-care steps you can take to reduce the discomfort that varicose veins cause and help prevent or delay the development of varicose veins.
Walking is an excellent way to promote blood circulation in your legs. Depending on your varicose veins, your doctor can suggest a suitable activity level for you.
Choose what you wear
Avoid high heels as much as possible because it requires muscles to exert more effort and force. Low-heeled shoes are better for your veins. Additionally, don’t wear tight clothes on your waist, legs or groin for these garments can decrease blood flow.
Maintain proper diet and weight
Losing excess pounds takes extra pressure off your veins. What you eat can also affect your varicose veins. You may follow a low-salt diet to counteract swelling affected by water retention.
Take a rest
Avoid long periods of standing or sitting. Make sure to change your position from time to time to encourage blood flow.
Another thing is to avoid sitting with your legs crossed. Other doctors believe this position can develop circulation problems.
Position your legs
To maintain proper circulation in your legs, take time to elevate your legs above the level of your heart. You can do this by lying down with your legs resting on three or four pillows. The best time to do this is at night time before going to bed.
